3D Printed Clay Incense Burners
Incense burners are an essential part of every middle eastern home. This once hand-manufactured and meticulously crafted artefact has slowly fallen prey to industrial manufacturing. This work was an initiative to put that craft power back into the hands of the artist through parametric design and create new craft conditions for contemporary middle eastern homes. The design limitations of each incense burner are informed by the weight and consistency of the clay, the printing limits of the 3D printer and a CNC-milled copper cone that fits inside the neck of the incense burner to light incense coal.
This project was a part of a group exhibit at Design Days Dubai (2017) and later exhibited at Tadaex Tehran, Iran (2017).
